HER2 is a protein that tells cells to grow. In HER2-positive eBC, the cancer cells have too much HER2, which leads to cancer growth.

These cells grow and divide faster than healthy cells, causing tumors
to form.

For people with HER2-positive eBC, the goal of treatment is to
cure. Patients often receive treatment before and after surgery.

Before Surgery
(Neoadjuvant)

Shrinking the tumor with a HER2-targeted
treatment and chemotherapy before surgery may
increase the chances of removing it entirely.

After Surgery
(Post-neoadjuvant)

The goal of treatment is to help destroy any cancer cells that may remain after surgery and help lower the chances of the cancer coming back.

eBC, early breast cancer; HER2, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2.
